Who: John McCraw

When: August 2011

Their story: John joined us in Old Saybrook, CT and spent the next 4 days with us at Block Island. The trip up started with some good sailing but by the end of the trip we were motoring.

Friday we rented bicycles and rode around the island stopping at the SE light house and spent time playing in the surf.  We had looked at renting mopeds but could not, (that is a story in itself - ask John - something about failing a test).  The day would not have be complete with out a stop at one of the local ice cream stores.

Saturday John said he went in for a run but Kris only saw him strolling working on his Iphone or strolling back with coffee and "Killer Donuts".

We met up with Kenny Fontaine and his family and spent the morning playing on the beach,  and the kids being pulled on a tube by Kenny's big dinghy.  We went to their boat that evening where the kids fished for Moon Jellyfish, and Derek put on a short magic show.

Sunday we left Block Island under cloudy skies and a forecast of winds out of the south 10-15 knots with gusts to 20 knots.  What we got was winds 20-30 knots with gusts to 40 knots and up to 5 foot seas.  Oh - did I mention the driving rain?   All in all a good sail, and the boat preformed really well.  In fact we could not believe the wind was that strong because we were pretty comfortable although wet.  We got close to Old Saybrook and the sun came out and the wind lessoned and everything went up on the lines to dry.

We really enjoyed Johns stay with us, and look forward to having him stay with us again.
